After describing a textile enterprise as a living organism in the environment of market economy, planning and implementation of a textile plant is decribed. Overview is given on what all is invovled in managing a textile mill/firm and then the functions of manging finance, materials, marketing, production, utlities, human resource, information system and pollution comtrol are decribed. The role of computers in management is also covered.
The glorious past of Indian textiles from 5000 BC till 1800 AD, and the introduction of industrialisation in India through textiles from 1848 till 1947 are outlined briefly. The multifaceted
growth from 1950 to 2005 is detailed along with the role played by the
policies of the government. The rise of the supplier industries of enginering and chemicals
is also covered. Special attention is given to the growth of technical education and applied research in textiles, and to the role played by them. The imports and exports of textiles from India and the position of the
Indian textiles on the world scene are detailed. Issues faced by this industry in near future due to the newly released forces of globalisation are outlined.
