MANIFESTATION OF TEXTILES IN CULTURAL LIFE (Vastra Sankalpanechaa Saanskrutik Aavishkaar)

References to textiles - a basic need of any society - abound in folk literature of most languages. Marathi, with a history of over one millennium, is a language enriched by several types of folk music and folk arts; and by the compositions of saint-poets, pandit-poets, playwrights, novelists, short story tellers etc. Textile references in these literature forms are described and analysed here. Idioms and sayings based on textiles are cited. Annexures are given to bring out the textile  vocabulary of traditional textile crafts/castes in the Marathi speaking regions. Traditional textile designing in India is also included in this volume.
