Our Great Socio-Cultural Heritage
The Indian
textile tradition, dating from the pre-Harappan
civilisation, is over 7000 years old. India has
exported cotton textiles all over the world since
centuries, and takes great pride in its rich textile
traditions. Even today, each region has specialised
traditional skills in production of colourful textiles,
with thousands of distinctive motives in many exquisite
styles.
Similies and metaphors, idioms and sayings alluding
to textiles, abound in the literature of all 22
of our languages and hundreds of dialects.
Our modern textile industry caters to every taste
of the widely differentiated populace of over 100
crores(1 billion). We have a vibrant industry, creating
abundance within the country and growing actively
in exports.
